“Everyone's asking me stuff I can't answer. Except the stuff about skateboards. I got that shit on lock.”

[INFO]
Name: Kevin Ingstrom
Canon: Vampire: the Masquerade (tabletop rpg OC, 20th Anniversary edition)
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Chronological Age: 28
Specific Vampire Details: Clan Brujah, 13th generation, Camarilla
What His Deal Is: 90s skateboarder turned 90s vampire who lived an uneventful but kinda grim unlife in New York for 10 years, then got roped into trying to prevent the apocalypse. Mellow, emotional labor workhorse, friend to all dogs, book dunce, skate genius, extremely smalltime youtuber.

[APPEARANCE]

Height/Weight: 5'7" / 130 lbs

Looks: Kevin has very short brown hair, brown eyes, and is extremely pale. Because he's relatively recently dead and close to his humanity, he doesn't have the look of an actual corpse the way a lot of vampires do. Most young men his age/demographic have a couple inches on him, and his tendencies toward slouched posture and loose clothing exaggerate the impression of smallness. His usual demeanor is relaxed, unobtrusive, and terminally informal.

Distinguishing Features: Kevin has a few minor scars he picked up before he died by dint of being himself. His back is also subtly weird. Kevin got the shit kicked out of him once and a friend(?) used vampire flesh crafting abilities to braid his muscles back together. This patch job meant he could stay useful, but when the wounds healed the kludge remained. It's only obvious if, for whatever reason, you're paying attention to the way the muscles lie.
He also recently picked up a scar shaped sort of like a tower on his collar bone. It's a long story involving a werewolf totem spirit.

#VampireProblems:
Kevin's body temperature is somewhat cooler than a living person (which is warm for a vampire.)
Kevin has no pulse, but can fake one by spending blood if he has to.
He breathes out of habit, most vampires don't.
His teeth appear ordinary unless he draws his fangs out on purpose, or gets very upset.
When Kevin sleeps, he really does look and feel dead. He can mostly pass as alive while awake.
Things that would alter Kevin's appearance are restored to how they were at death whenever he sleeps.

Style: 90s/00s skate punk. Hoodies, baggy graphic tees (logos, rad skeletons, slogans, etc), jeans and cargo pants with wide legs, Vans and Converse, baseball caps worn backwards, sometimes skate brands on things. He tends toward darker/muddled colors and often black (but never all black), but it's mostly because Kevin doesn't like drawing attention. If he could live his ideal life, he has a fondness for bright highlighter tones that creep in whenever he can't resist.

“Look man, the whole way I think I'm still kicking around is just cause I'm good at keeping my head down.”

[OOC / Character Types ]
Backtagging: Yes!
Threadhopping: If it's on a network post of some kind go right for it, my dude. If it's a log or something, ask, but if the other player's okay with it it's probably fine with me.
Fourthwalling: Please don't unless I've indicated permission otherwise.
Other VtM OCs: Just help me figure out how time lines up. I'm not honestly the best at VtM's whole span of lore, and I definitely do not know what's up in 5th edition. On a canon setting note, Kevin has met and had major interactions with several of the canon lore characters. I'm happy to leave that stuff out if we're playing in-universe and it makes things easier, and probably the Gehenna stuff too.
Media : Hit me with anything. Bring me your las, your animes, your vidyas.
Assumed CR?: Absolutely on memes. In games you're free to assume a character has picked up his name and reputation off of the comms network or w/e, or that they've seen each other around if they've been in game together without threading for a good while.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): I'd appreciate a warning for typically shocking or gross topics coming up out of nowhere, but there's not anything that's particularly sensitive for me as long as I know what we're doing.

Kevin himself has a backstory that involves some terrible things, described more thoroughly below.

[IC]
Hugging/Physical Affection: OOCly I'm fine with it. Kevin himself may initiate a hug or a shoulder lean with someone he trusts, especially at emotional moments. Overall, though, he's not used to being touched and is a little nervous if it's sudden or presumes too much closeness.
Kissing this character: OOCly I'm also fine with it, but it probably has negative consequences. Kevin really does not want to be kissed by anybody and it will distress him if someone does.
Flirting with this character: This would blindside him and he'd be sort of bewildered by it. The only real consequence to think about is that if someone does keep flirting with him after he's been obviously uncomfortable, he will just quietly start avoiding them and it may hamper having further CR.
Fighting with this character: Heck yeah, dude. I like to keep it short though because I get bored just writing fight choreography for long stretches.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Sure. I prefer to talk about it if we're getting more serious than people being beat up, if we start talking lasting injuries I'm probably talking to you ooc.
Killing this character: Sufficient injury will knock him into vampiric torpor, which is basically like being dead for a period of time, but I'm mostly not interested in doing permadeath stuff.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Ask and I'm generally happy to provide, Kevin is an open book. It may hurt his feelings icly, though.

[SHIPPING]
I enjoy writing ships, but Kevin's in a very specific and weird situation. He's a sort of schrodinger's teenager, physically and emotionally he's stuck at 17 but he's also been 17 for a decade now. He's not an adult, but he's also not entirely a kid either. This makes questions of age/experience hard to answer for him. He's also not sure he's capable of that kind of romantic feeling for another person anymore because of #vampireproblems and how genuinely traumatic his only real romantic experience was. I'm open to doing something if it seems to work, but the circumstances under which it might are probably narrow.

Additionally: I'm not really interested in writing smut at the best of times, and am especially not interested in writing it with this character.

“...Sometimes when you're a vampire, wanting someone to not do something and putting 'em through a wall turns into the same thing.”

[IC WARNINGS]
The Vampiric Beast: I will talk about this OOC first if it's going on, but there are a couple of circumstances under which Kevin can lose control to his inner Beast. Kevin's Beast is more timid than most, it's inclined toward flight over fight, but it can absolutely hurt people badly and make situations extra horrible.
  • The Beast reacts to strong feelings of fear and anger. Kevin deliberately tries to keep a lid on himself because he knows his stupid vampire brain can't tell emotions from physical threats.

  • The Beast is deathly afraid of fire and sunlight. Any kind of large or actively threatening flame can send Kevin into a panic in which he's not beyond hurting people that block his escape. Exposure to sunlight is much the same, unless there's an ingame playability excuse reason he can tolerate it.

  • The Beast takes control when Kevin is starving. If he's lost enough blood (whether through injury or using it up) he can lose his grip to the Beast's hunger. This can, obviously, be very bad to be around. He's also hyper-alert to the smell of blood most of the time, and being around wounded people can be uncomfortable for him if he's not full up.

[OOC CONTENT WARNINGS]
Kevin is a nice kid himself, but he's carting around a boatload of trauma that he will possibly talk about if someone digs for it, or have in narration if situations strongly remind him of it. Mostly, I'm not looking to play any of it for shock value. It's just kind of there, and a lot of it I don't have descriptions of specific incidents because those haven't come up/mattered. Most occurred offscreen about a decade before the campaign he's from began. If you need to communicate with me about this, I have an opt-out post and am at your disposal on any other contact you have for me.

As for general blood stuff I honestly don't enjoy getting into gory detail and usually set up workarounds so it's not a major thing that needs written out often. Kevin doesn't like feeding off people directly if he doesn't have to.

Major horrible things that have happened to Kevin or that he has been close to include: (these are dropdowns)
  • Emotional abuse by a romantic partner: Kevin became a vampire when his first "serious" girlfriend (who he thought was just this really cool girl from another school who had a lot going on during the day) turned out to be a vampire. Kevin did not have any warning that she was, and did not agree to being turned. He didn't take it the way she'd hoped, and she detained him for 6 months before giving up on convincing him to be happy about this/to love her again. She lashed out at him a lot during this time, and did major damage to his sense of self worth. It was a very horrible and emotionally complicated time he's not eager to recount. Kevin will talk in loose terms about the fact the person who turned him was a girl he liked, if it comes up, but he doesn't really want to get into details.

  • Killing another person:Kevin struggled to deal with being a vampire for a while. Several early incidents happened where he lost control of himself and the vampiric Beast inside him took the wheel/killed another person for their blood. One of the people he killed this way was a close friend. He has also been party to killing some vampire hunters that attacked him and his friends. He will admit to having killed people in the past if it comes up, but is still pretty rattled by those experiences and not eager to lay them out on anybody.

  • Attempted suicide: During his first year, there was a point where Kevin attempted to just lay out for the sunrise to kill him for real this time. He survived it (though badly burned) because the Beast took control and fled for cover. He doesn't really talk about this incident unless someone drags it out of him or tries to push him about how being a vampire is good and cool actually, mostly he knows it's a disturbing topic and not something to bring up. He has not been in a suicidal place emotionally in a long time and is not likely to return there. The closest he approaches this is not worrying about his own physical safety/potential death if he thinks the risks he's taking are important.

  • Catastrophic events: Kevin was present when a gigantic acidic slime mold monster rose up out of the sewers of NYC and began to assimilate/kill everyone there. He was also present when Boston was bombed in an attempt to slow the spread of the creature along the eastern seaboard. Many people were killed, and these were both places Kevin had considered his home. While he will talk about being tangled up in the ongoing end of the world (it's kind of the biggest thing going on in his unlife right now) he also knows it's extremely uncool to dump genuinely heavy details like this on people unless they really have asked for them.
